MARTINA THORNHILL & JEN VALENCIA GALLERY

KAMP Gallery presents an exhibition of new work by Portland, Oregon based ceramist and artists Martina Thornhill and Jen Valencia. The show reflects on the idea of sanctuary—how it is built, maintained, protected, and fought for through the lens of traditional women's craft.

Pulling inspiration from folk art, Martina and Jen use ceramics, quilting, paper mache, and Afghan war rugs to draw attention to the often unacknowledged and historically gendered care work that underpins both sanctuary and resistance. Musician Drew Steadham accompanied the opening with a soundscape exploring sounds of those striving to find sanctuary themselves.
